A website launch with a difference

Dominion TheatreOne of the reasons, amongst the many, I have been so quiet the last few weeks has been one of the projects I have been working on for Hillsong London.

Hillsong is the church I belong to in London. It’s services take place at the world reknown Dominion Theatre in Tottenham Court Road, Central London. The Dominion Theatre is also home to the show “We Will Rock You”. Going to a Hillsong service is like going to a theatre show every week, 2000 people packing out each service, 3 services a day, awesome live music, international guest speakers, flashing lights, smoke machines and a gigantic cinema screen. Of course at the heart of it, it’s much more than the glitz and glamour though.

In November last year I was asked to help revamp the rather dusty portal website. 6 and a bit months later, together with Ryan Shelton, Tim Plummer and Paul Galatis we launched the new website – an Expression Engine powered, pixel perfect, functionality packed site. I was responsible for taking Ryan’s beautiful photoshop mockups and making them work in html/css. Albeit a couple bugs it works pretty well.

The launch took place last week in all three Sunday services with an awesome audio visual presentation created by the incredibly talented video team. Watching our 6 months worth of work visualised in an AV broadcasted onto the massive cinema display in the Dominion Theatre made all the hours of hard graft worth while.

Make sure you check out the video on the new website. It’s a humorous rip-off of the Mac vs PC TV ads. Find it within the flash player on the home page of the site. Just click on the “Watch the ad” button.

  1. Di: Thanks for the great feedback. Glad you like it 😉

Kate: Thanks for informing me 😉 Hillsong is a huge church, yet sometimes it seems a very small place, perhaps I’ve bumped into her before…

  2. That video makes me jealous. Very cool!

The most extravagant website launch I’ve done involved printing 2000 pamphlets with a screenshot and a web address … I guess I’ll have to take it up a notch!

You should definitely submit this to Expression Engine for their showcase. http://expressionengine.com/showcase/interview_list/

So Mark, I guess this means you’re slowly making the switch to EE, congratulations! ;>)
