Last weekend I finally got around to watching “Into the wild” and now i’m blogging about it, even though the movie was released in 2007 and has been reviewed plenty of times.

Into the wild recounts the life of Christopher McCandless, an actual student-athlete at Emory University, as told by his sympathetic sister. In response to a materialistic, manipulative, and domineering father, McCandless destroys all of his credit cards and identification documents, donates $24,000 (nearly his entire savings) to Oxfam, and sets out on a crosscountry drive in his well-used but reliable economy car towards his ultimate goal: to live alone and off the land in Alaska. Last week I went to see the awesome Zimbo band Mann Friday perform at the famous Halfmoon in Putney. (Halfmoon has hosted live music full time since 1963, with occassional performances dating back as far as the 1920s. From The Rolling Stones to Kasabian, Kate Bush to Natasha Bedingfield the venue is steeped in music heritage.)

I can’t tell you much about Mann Friday because I couldn’t find much information about them, not even on their website. What I can tell you is that I am now a huge fan. One quote I randomly found that sums up perfectly what Mann Friday are all about is:

One of the more fun projects I have completed in the past couple months was a Zoopy profile page for South Africa’s much loved comedian Evita Bezuidenhout.

Zoopy is South Africa’s first and foremost video and photo sharing social network. I’ve always been a fan of their neat and usable design so when Jason, at Zoopy’s headquarters, asked me to take on one of their projects I jumped at the opportunity.

Evita requested her Zoopy profile page portray her Afrikaans heritage all the while beaming her support for the new South Africa and it’s bright future. Another way to put it: Boere Baroque – a fashionable but old school Tannie.

The end result was a collage of Evita’s memorabilia – including her photos, a string of pearls, a kruger rand and even her passport, sitting pretty on a pink wallpaper, with dashes of Biggie Best Kitsch throughout the content layout.
